Russian Envoy Says UN Sanctions on North Korea Are Counterproductive

In a statement delivered in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vasily Nebenzya criticized the United Nations Security Council sanctions imposed on North Korea, arguing that history has shown such measures to be counterproductive.

Nebenzya, speaking at a press briefing, said the sanctions have failed to achieve their intended goals and have instead had adverse effects. He emphasized that past experiences demonstrate the limited effectiveness of these punitive actions.

The remarks come amid ongoing international efforts to curb North Korea’s nuclear program, with the United Nations repeatedly tightening sanctions in response to the regime’s activities.
